I had been walking past the Shangri-La BGC for two years before I finally booked a session at CHI, The Spa. Here's my complete, honest review — what went well, what surprised me, and whether the price is justified.
Booking and Arrival
Booking was seamless through their website. I chose the 90-minute Signature Filipino Hilot (₱4,200) and arrived 15 minutes early as instructed. The reception area immediately sets the mood: warm cedar scent, soft piano, minimal staff movement.
The Locker Room and Preparation
The locker room is fully equipped — fresh robe, slippers, a warm ginger tea, and a short intake form. My therapist reviewed my preferences (pressure level, areas to avoid) before we began. This personal intake is surprisingly rare at Manila spas.
The Hilot Experience Itself
Filipino hilot is different from Swedish or Thai massage. The therapist uses warmed coconut oil and deliberate, firm strokes that work along energy lines. I came in with serious lower-back tension and left genuinely lighter. The session lasted the full 90 minutes — no rushing.
What I Would Change
The only minor critique: the relaxation room post-treatment has only 4 chairs. On a busy Sunday, this felt slightly crowded. Also, parking is limited — take a taxi or Grab.
Verdict
CHI Spa is a genuine luxury experience that delivers on its price point. For out-of-town guests or special occasions, it's unmatched in BGC. For weekly relaxation, Serenity Spa at Rockwell is my more wallet-friendly alternative.
